So it’s Christmas Eve and the office in the big smoke is closing early, so I thought it might be a good opportunity for Kyler to come along with me to see what Dad does all day and introduce him to the world of work!!
So it was an early start, for Kyler when he’s on holiday anyway, I woke him up and he was pretty bleary eyed (He loves his sleep), but once he got going he was fine, I just needed to give him instructions one by one, ‘get up’, ‘put your clothes on’ (with a little help), ‘brush your teeth’, do your hair (OK I did that bit) etc.
We head straight to Stevenage to park the car up before walking the 1.5 miles to the station, (I do that every day after a session in the gym, great cardio), I think that’s when it started to dawn on Kyler that this working lark isn’t so easy as it seems, and we hadn’t even really started the journey yet!!
So we got to the station, bought our tickets to London, I gave Kyler his own ticket and after a bit of a fumble at the gate to go through to the trains we made it through and went down to the platform to wait for our train, being as efficient as I am we were actually at the station about half an hour earlier than I was aiming for and the train was at the station pretty much as we hit the platform, so we took a chance on it being the right one, fortunately it was otherwise the journey could have been a MUCH longer affair!! Kyler certainly seemed to love the train trip and I think maybe had awoken a little more and it dawned on him what was happening today, by the end of the journey we were chatting away about all sorts of things.
Next up was the tube, now seeing as it was Christmas Eve, bot the train and the tube journeys were significantly different to the usual rat race madness that I am conventionally used to, so rarely we got seats on both of them, Kyler was equally impressed if not a little more so with the tube experience.
Once we hit our station (Moorgate) off we got and headed up to the street level, so my plan was as a treat we would go to a little cafe on the way to the office and stop for a bacon sarnie, Kyler does love a bacon sarnie, not only did he get a sarnie he was also given a free hot chocolate to wash it down with, nice!!
So eventually we reached the office, which is right next to the bank of England, Kyler’s all time favourite place because like Mr Crabs, he likes money, and there’s an AWFUL lot of money in there!!
Inside the office Kyler was suitably impressed with how BIG it is and very cool, also he loved the Christmas tree and how big it was, he looked tiny next to it as you can see.
So I set Kyler up on my laptop and I gave him a long list of horrendously mind numbingly boring and important tasks that urgently needed to be completed before he was allowed to leave, tasks including Hungry Shark, Pixel Gun and other equally tough tasks, this was whilst Daddy sat around and did not a great deal and did all the fun things.
So once we had finished doing all our jobs I thought I would treat Kyler with a quick tour around some of the cooler areas of London, like Oxford Street to see the lights, Carnaby Street for the themed decoration, and of course most importantly the infamous huge toy store Hamleys on Bond Street which he was particularly mesmerised with and wants to go back next year to spend his birthday money.
All of that working, walking and taking in the cool sites, not to mention battling the tourists and crowds was pretty hungry work, so as Kyler does love his Pizza we hit a lovely Italian restaurant just off Argyle Street where we ate chicken strips, pizza, lasagne and chocolate dip with pizza and pistachios, washed down with a cool refreshing beer, I had the same too 🙂
We were going to head to Winter Wonderland in Hyde park but time was fleeting and the hours in the day were running out with so much to do it was time to head back to Kings Cross, so another tube ride, our train was pretty much ready to leave as soon as we got to Kings Cross so on we hopped and back to Stevenage and to the car we went, ready to start Christmas festive celebrations!!
So all in all a great day’s work, and now Kyler’s ambitions are to go to work in London, and one day there’s no doubt he will do, job done!!
